The Arab American Cancer Action Council, in partnership with ACCESS (Arab American Community Center for Economic and Social Services) began meeting in June (2017).
The group is comprised of 11 core members including female cancer survivors and their family members.
Along with the “Building Your Capacity: Advancing Research Through Community Engagement” training council members receive an in-depth Cancer 101 training session. Denise Henderson, M.Ed., RN-BC, nurse educator from the Patient and Community Education Department at the Karmanos Cancer Institute leads our Cancer 101 training. Council members enjoy her informal presentation style and the way Ms. Henderson is able to explain cancer biology in simple language.
