On June 19, 2017 our first 3 Cancer Action Councils celebrated the completion of our “Building Your Capacity: Advancing Research Through Community Engagement” training. Around 100 people were in attendance to share a meal and celebrate the graduates including academic researchers, community stakeholders, council members and their friends and families.
The program included introductory remarks from Dr. Terri Albrecht, Professor and Division Chief, Population Sciences, Dept. of Oncology, WSU School of Medicine/Karmanos Cancer Institute and a keynote address by Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Director and Health Officer at Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans, and Community Wellness. Each Cancer Action Council selected representatives to present on the participation experience and priority research topic areas.
